Our Story

This story begins more than 30 years before the opening of Knights Tackle Box. Charles and Dessa Knight opened the Knight’s Studio to showcase their artwork. Located on the hill side of the beautiful Salmon River; Charles and Dessa Knight continued to make miracles with their craftsmanship. From repairing carousel horses , blowing glass work , sculpting clay, painting visual masterpieces , and not mention Charles's wood carvings. He could take a block of a wood from any tree and turn it into a living , breathing work of art.
Charles and Dessa traveled across Oregon and the united states sharing their work with the people. From Portland to Southern California too the east coast in the Florida Keys. They settled in the Portland Saturday Market for 18 years; eventually raised two daughters and moved to the Oregon Coast. From then on they the have lived and ran the Knights Studio for 32 years .
As time passed , Charles ended up having a stroke in 2002 and lost the function to use the right side his body. With the help of the community and family members around them they opened Knight’s Tackle Box. Charles continued with his craftsmanship with one hand crafting: mirrors, elk and bear sculptures , and paintings; along with running the tackle and bait shop. Every year they would hold a fishing and hunting contest to the biggest fish and game . Posting pictures of the communities feats on facebook and the personal “wall of fame” that people would always come in and check.
In 2018 Charles’s health was becoming less and less stable . Further having symptoms of heart problems , and on February 16th he passed due to heart failure. An icon was lost in the community. Dessa Knight and with the help of her family and friends; is still keeping the store open in his honor and planning on big and positive changes to keep his dream alive!
